Tylosin 75

Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic that is essentially active against Gram-positive bacteria and micoplasma. It is also active against Gram-negative bacteria, spirochetes, some rickettsia and chlamydia.

 

Composition:

Tylosin tartrate eq. 750 000 I.U. (750mg) Tylosin- Excipients up to 1 gram.

 

Indications:

1) Poultry:

- Prevention and treatment of chronic respiratory disease (C.R.D.) caused by Micoplasma gallisepticum in chickens and turkeys.

- As an aid in treatment of infectious sinusitis in turkeys.

 

2) Pigs:

- Prevention and treatment of swine dysentry, as an aid in treatment (maintenance of growth, improvement of feed efficiency) in case of chronic infections (enzootic pneumonia, atrophic rhinitis).

 

Contra-indications:

Administration to animals with a history of tylosin hypersensitivity is contra-indicated.

 

Dosage and Administration:

Tylosin 75 sol. powder is administered with the drinking water or feed.

 

Poultry:

Mix in the drinking water to obtain a final concentration of 0.05% Tylosin= 100g Tylosin 75 sol. powder per 150 litres of drinking water.

Medicated water is provided as the only source of drinking water.

 

- For prevention of CRD, Tylosin 75 is added to drinking water of 1-day old chicks for 3 successive days. Repeat treatment after about 4 weeks of age for 1-2 days. Medication may also be given in case of increased infection danger (e.g. stress at time of vaccination).

 

- For treatment of CRD, Tylosin 75 is added to the drinking water for 2-5 days.

- For supported therapy in case of infectious sinisitis in turkeys, Tylosin 75 is added to the drinking water for 2 to 5 days.

 

Pigs:

MIx in the drinking water to obtain a final concentration of 0.025- 0.05% Tylosin= 100g to 200g Tylosin 75 sol. powder per 300 litres of drinking water.

Medicated water is provided as the sole source of drinking water for 3 to max. 10 days.

Tylosin 75 can also be mixed with the feed at the rate of 1kg per 1000kg of complete feed.

Poultry 100g in 150 litres drinking water for 3 days 100g in 150 litres drinking water for 3 days
Pigs 100g in 300 litres drinking water for 3-10days 100g in 150 litres drinking water for 3-10 days

 

For administration with the drinking water, first mix the total amount of Tylosin 75 sol. powder that is calculated in a small portion of drinking water until homogenous. Then add the concentrated solution under continuous stirring to the drinking water until the desired final concentration is obtained. Fresh solutions should be prepared every 1-3 days.

 

Undesirable Effects:

Anal irritation, manifested as frequent episodes of rapid tail shaking, erythrema, oedema of rectal mucosa and rectal prolapse seldom may occur in pigs.

 

Interactions:

Tylosin is comaptible with most anti-coccidia feed additives. Combination with lincomycin may be antagonistic.
